It was an occasion of the live concert which was organized in Ahmedabad "Hits of Madan Mohan". The peculiarity of this concert was that the strings section was played manually by those Ustads from the film industry. Friends I saw the whole programme live and after listening to the players, I decided to meet them and ask the mystery behind those 27 odd players sitting in three rows and producing the worlds best output, which can give you goosebumps, trust me..Today I would love to share with you what I discussed with them..
Normally you might have seen people giving credits to the music director and the music composers, who will make the tunes and convert the lyrics into songs. But have you ever thought of those people who actually convert these songs into music, which finally reach to the audience. The music director just presents his idea to the arranger, and arranger finally converts those ideas into notations and with the help of his team of violin players, he will actually produce what we hear in CD's and cassettes.
From the bottom of my heart, I salute these music arrangers and conductors, who have spent their entire life in this industry, the first half of their career in learning the notations while the second half in working with all big music directors and composers of the industry. Personally I have a great respect for these people and thus I like keeping track of their life, and you might be surprised to know that Mr. Kamal Pradhan, to whom I met on the next day of his show in Ahmedabad, is none other than the senior arranger who has worked with all biggies in industry like Laxmikant pyarelal ji, Rakesh Roshan ji, Ahsa ji, and all contemporary singers and music directors as well.
Shri Kamal Pradhan has many achievements in his bags. Friends I feel very proud to share that he is none other than the composer of songs like Zindagi pyaar ka geet he and Shayad meri shaadi ka khayal from the movie "Sautan". Kamalji was the player himself who has played with composer K C lord in the evergreen song Tum jo mil gaye ho-ye jahan mil gaya..Also he is none other than the arranger of music in the recent Indian Idol 5, when the legendary Pyarelal ji was present on that show, with his group of violin players. To mention a other few, the title song and two other songs from film Dhadkan (Sunil Shetty and Shilpa Shetty) are arranged by Kamalji. When I asked him about the recent trends in the music industry regarding manual instruments, he was very much upset and says that the liking towards such instruments and the spending towards such arrangements is vanishing day by day. He says that parents are very happy to send their children to music classes to learn keyboard. But we hardly find people showing interest towards instruments like flute, violin, Sarangi, sitar, etc, which are considered to be the heart of golden period of industry.
Kamalji considers Shri Ramprasad sharmaji, the father of Pyarelal ji, as his Guru and he says that If Ramprasad ji were present today and If he would have said that Kamal I am suffering from a heart attack, can you lend me your heart??? Kamalji says that in this scenario, he would have not waited for a single moment and done exactly what Ramprasad ji demanded.. In those times, he was a very selfless person and never worked for money, which most of the music directors do as of today, adds Kamalji..
In fact, there are many more things that I had discussed with him during my face to face interaction for about 3 hours. It might take more that 20 pages, still these were some highlights. Next time whenever I will visit Kamal ji in mumbai, I will make sure to bring some live pictures directly from the studios...
